Type Locality and Naming

Lithology and Thickness
Volcanics. Predominantly volcanic sequence made up of basalts, tuffs and inter-trappeans. The inter-trappeans are mainly argillaceous. The volcanic rocks vary from nearly glassy to fine to medium-grained textures. The thickness of this formation varies significantly in the offshore wells and ranges from around 25 m to 860 m in the Cuttack graben the thickness of this unit exceeds 2078 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Overlies the Precambrian basement complex with a major unconformity.
Upper contact
Unconformable with overlying Paradeep Fm.

Fossils
One palynological zone, namely Podpcarpidites ellipticus-Microcahryidites antacticus Zone was recognized.
Age
Depositional setting
The volcanic rocks are both sub-aerial and subaqueous. The inter-trappeans were deposited under non-marine to marginal marine.
